Word...

Word up homies. So, I will start off by saying I am happy to announce I am working less than 50; more than 45 hours a week now. I think the last time I was able to say that was in early September. Crazy I know.

I hope everyone is having a good holiday season. I know that it took me some time; but I think I am starting to think this isn't going to be such a bad holiday season after all. Good friends, good times; large bar tabs. Well, I could do without the large bar tabs.

But the house is becoming more and more complete. The plumbing and electrical will be done by mid-next week and sheet rock should be up by the first week of January. I know, the same update for how long?

So, now that the house is coming along, I have the promotion; what else is going on in Marcus's world? Nothing terribly exciting. I went and saw Syriana. It was good; but not the movie to watch when you have been drinking and are not in the mood to pay attention. Also saw Narnia and that movie rocked.

I remember the movies as a kid and they kicked serious ass as did the movie. I really hope the decide to finish the rest of the series as the other books were just as good as the first.

I am almost done with Christmas shopping which will be nice. But I still have to do my Christmas cards which always takes longer than I anticipate. I should set a timeline of which I have milestones in which to meet. Maybe then I will have them done by the time Christmas comes around.

DAMN CAFE RIO

So, numerous people have confirmed what I have feared to come true. Cafe Rio now will have a downtown location. Of course after I have long lobbied to have a downtown location and have since moved to the "Southlands" of the Salt Lake Valley; they now have a downtown location.

Am I bitter over this? Very much so. It is complete B.S. If they open up a Cafe Rio on Main St. that only serves to-go orders for businesses during the day; I think I'll go Michael Douglas "Falling Down" on someone.

SO I'M A GEEK, WHAT OF IT?

It has been brought to my attention that I am a geek. Apparently the following makes you what you would call a "nerd":

  • Star Wars Fan
  • Know what a Sarlacc Pit is
  • Have beat Halo and Halo 2
  • Play Fantasy Football (don't know how this makes me nerdy...)
  • Was overjoyed to see Narnia, Lord of the Rings and all of the Star Wars
  • Spent hours refining my MP3 collection (even I have to admit...it's impressive)
  • Watch the O.C. (go Chrismaka!!!)
  • CNET.com is on my favorites at home and work
  • I call CompUSA and Best Buy the "Toy Stores"
  • Weezer is one of my favorite bands
  • I own a Star Wars vintage shirt

So, if these are components to defining a geek; then I guess I am a geek. I am not gong to shy away from the prior mentioned traits because they might be "geeky". But I have never been to a comic book convention, watched Star Trek and have deep theological discussions on Star Wars.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I hate that people are afraid to say Merry Christmas or even Happy Holidays. This time of year; when you go to the store or somewhere and say Merry Christmas you are usually met with a "deer in headlights" look. WTF? Since when was it so politically incorrect to say either?

Hell, not even the president has the balls to put Happy Holidays on his Christmas card. Oh, and it isn't X-Mas by the way. There is no such thing as X-Mas.

- Boston Renames 'Christmas Tree' to the 'Holiday Tree'

MUSIC OF THE MOMENT...

So, with my latest resurgence in listening to music. I thought I would put the three albums that I can't seem to get enough of. Does this mean you need to run out and check them out...yes. Yes it does.

- Beatles; The White Album: For those who only know the Beatles for their hits. This is a must. But avoid 'Revolution 9'; it is a little weird. Songs like Rocky Raccoon; Happiness is a Warm Gun along with a handful of ones that you will already know you're bound to like it (if you're a Beatles fan that is)

Modest Mouse; The Moon & Antarctica: If you like their last album Good News for People Who Like Bad News; then you'll like this one.

- Weezer; Blue Album Deluxe Edition: This is a must have for any Weezer fan. The B Side tracks are epic and classic Weezer. 'Mykel and Carli' and 'Jamie' are two classic tracks that are right up there with my favorite Weezer tracks

Those are three albums that have been playing non stop in the Subaru lately. Don't care how you get them; just do it.

So no shit here I am...

I am going insane. Yep, completely insane. No sleep, long hours at the office and burned out of work. I have another week, or that is what I tell myself. Another week of this hell and I will have some time to myself. I haven't looked this forward to Thanksgiving since I was a kid. I think I am going to take a week off when all of the dust settles.

I'm not going to do shit the entire time. No christmas shopping, no going to work, nothing. I am going to show up to work after a week off and look like a hobo (think Ron Burgandy in Anchorman). I don't even think I'll change my clothes during this time. I'm going to take a sleeping bag and to sit in a cave for a week.

I don't think I have ever been this stressed in my life. No part of high school, college or student government could amount to this. But at the sametime, this is what I asked for. I currently have a client that will turn into a monster client as we implement them. And as a present for my promotion, I received another client which is the same size as this monster.

So what does this all mean? It means that I am not going to have a slow period until after these two monster clients are fully implemented. That will not be until the summer which takes me right into Open Enrollment of '06. Nice huh?

FRAME'S, POCKET DOORS AND STUFF

They finally are ready to start the framing of my house. They are supposed to begin tomorrow and should be done with the framing in two weeks. They should have the sheet rock up about six weeks after that.

I also finally bought the tile for the shower. How cool is that? I now have tile, 950 pounds worth of tile. The cool thing is that I was planning on paying $2.50 to $3 per square foot and I ended up getting the tile I want $.68 per square foot.

The great thing is that the timing couldn't have been better. Because my projects should slow down a little which should allow me time to go to the house to deal with paper work and house stuff. The irony is I don't even know how long I want to keep the place. I may move in and want to sell if the price is right. We'll have to see though.

THE SUBARU STAYS...

It turns out that I don't have to sell the Subaru after all. How great is that? Yes, it will be very tight money; but it will be worth it. Plus, the truck isn't coming back from the dead anytime soon.

IPODS ROCK

I have to say that I heart the iPod. I didn't think it would be that great; but it really is. I haven't even touched the video aspect of it. The only downside is the battery life. It blows at the moment and I don't know why. I need to call Apple and see what the deal is.

Also, I was able to take the gift card courtesy of CompUSA and buy another iPod. Turned around and sold it. So, I made money to get an iPod; can't argue with that.

OTHER NOTES AND MUSINGS...

I hate the cold weather. Did I ever mention that? I don't even have my jacket pulled out of the container from when I moved. Put it this way, I have owned three jackets since I was 19. Two of which I have lost the liners for and don't wear. And the jacket I do have I got as a present when I was 19.

I think I am going to break it out when I get back home (after house sitting for my sister). It may be an old jacket; but it got me through my valet parking days. You know it can keep you warm if it keeps you warm in 5 degree weather for 5 hours, you know it is good.

On that note...I'm going to get some ice cream at Artic Circle w/ Freddo and stay up all night when I should be in bed right now.

So no sh!% there I was...

What had become known as the vehicular version of the chick magnet, is now in critical condition. I was making my way downtown to meet Mr. Hollen for coffee and the truck got all hot and bothered. The 'Check Engine' Light came on for a real long time...six minutes.

Called my brother in law to see if he could look at it since it was on my way to the coffee house. And the car died as I was close to the 13th South Exit (the one I needed to get off at). We were able to get it to start again for long enough to get back to my brother in laws. I have to take it in soon to get looked at; but that can't happen until this weekend at the earliest.

So, what does this all mean? Well, since the girl who was set to buy my car couldn't buy it cause she hasn't sold her car yet, I am not carless. But, it raises the question of can I keep the car and get the house? Have my cake and eat it too?

Well, I think I have devised a plan to do so; of which I will spare you the details.

YES, IPODS ARE THAT COOL...ESPECIALLY FREE IPODS...

So, I had to purchase a new iPod when they came out. I even found a way to get a free video iPod. Yes, because I am that cool. No, I actually took my Archos GMini back to CompUSA for a new one (warranty plan). They don't have the GMini anymore and they gave me a gift card for $380. My iPod w/ AppleCare warranty was $340. So, yes, I got paid to make the move.

Also, I can't believe how much more functionality you gain out of the iPod compared to other MP3 players. The ease of using them is amazing. The only downside is taking your music collection from computer to computer.

But it has motivated me to relook at my collection and how incomplete it really was. Thanks to Mikey Mike, I have now a much more complete collection. And after a few conference calls, my collection now has high resoloution album covers and an improved genre naming convention.

Between people at work and through a variety of friends; my collection has grown from a meager 4.5 gigs to 11.75 gigs. All I can say is nice...very nice. Also, I have expanded the music I listen to.

I have started to get into bands like MxPx, Fall Out Boy, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and Keane. All bands I suggest you check out.

ENOUGH ABOUT THE IPOD....WHAT ABOUT THE PROMOTION???

The company I work for has finally made their decision about who got the promotion. The email announcing it to the department has not been made yet. But I am certain that no one reading this will object if I leak the information a few hours early.

I received my promotion today from a Specialist to  Project Coordinator. I was really nervous that I didn't get it and actually found out in the most unconventional way. I went to get a phone number on the corporate organizational chart and noticed that my name had Project Coordinator instead of Specialist.

And to make things even better; right after I was called down to HR to make it official, they announced they extended casual days from end of October to the end of November. Which means I live to put off my dry cleaning for yet another month.

The promotion means I will be doing essentially the same job. But now I am salary rather than hourly and I have a shinny new title next to my name. It is cool to think I earned a promotion a little more than a year after starting.

NOW TO SOME LINKS...

- The new Shining Trailer: In the spirit of Halloween, this is a twist on an old time favorite.
- The Simpsons Tribute to the Shining: "No TV and No Beer make Homer something something..." "Go crazy..." "Don't mind if I do..." Such a great clip. By far the best Treehouse of Horror ever.

Now, all of you go and purchase your Star Wars Episode III tomorrow. Go now my child...go

Another one bites the dust...Who's Next???

Now, there are events that occur in life where you remember where you were when you heard the news: Kennedy being shot, O.J. verdict, Princess Di's death and the breakup of Brad and Jenn. This event isn't close to being in that category, I would be lying if I said it did. But...to my circle of friends...this is equivalent those.

Ryan "Yes...I'm Basque" Pagoaga is engaged. I know...if you know him, you should have been sitting when you read that. Even if you already knew, it is surprising to all of us. Now, it isn't that he found someone to say yes or that he found someone to ask. It is just that when we first met we compiled what was called the 'Depth Chart'. This was the order people were supposed to get married. Here is where it stood in 2000. Brandon doesn't count because he was practically married when we met him.

- Marcus - Megan - Melissa
- Jen
- Justin
- Ryan
- Freddy

The surprising part is that I remained in the top spot even after Lindsey and I broke up. But, you will notice that Ryan and Freddy are at the bottom. And out of that list...they will be the first two to go.

This is like pulling the string on a button and watching it fall..but it is that one button that you needed for the shirt to look okay. Without it, it just looks odd. That is what Ryan's engagement has done. Up is down...left is right...Megan shops will start shopping at the Gap and Freddy will become a vegetarian.

Either way, they are a perfect fit and I think I'm not alone in saying congrats Ryan and Cat. I'm glad to see that Cat will be able to improve the Basque blood line; now his kids have a fighting chance of being normal cause of her.

AND THE ALTICE AWARD OF UNSMOOTHNESS GOES TOO...

So, I have to say that if there was an award for being ultra unsmooth with hitting on a woman; I might have to throw myself into the running. We'll call this the Altice Award of Unsmoothness. So, allow me to explain myself ::No, no Marcus...keep going. We are all totally interested::

After dinner the other night, I was dropping the guys off up at the ATO house and heading back home. No big deal, it had just rained and I was heading home. As I was driving home, I said I would call someone after dinner. I call and she answers..."What are you up to?...Nothing, you?" Now as I am driving along; the lines are hard to see on the road when it rains; especially up at the dorms.

Now, two girls start to cross the street. I was going fairly fast (surprise...surprise) and stopped when I realized people were crossing. Now, they were never in any danger of getting hit; but it was more of a "thanks asshole...glad to see you could stop" type of situation. So, they cross the street only to realize the girl I was talking to...was the girl who I "almost hit". Nice huh?

None the less, talked to her and her friend and apologized profusely for it. I would have offered them a ride; but her friends building was close by and safe from having to cross the street. So, I have nominated myself for the Altice Award of Unsmoothness which is sponsored by Old Milwaukee Beer.

NO NEWS FROM THE JOB FRONT...

Other than I am working really hard and sleeping less, they still have not announced who got the coordinator position. However, they have posted another Coordinator position; which is really good. If I didn't get it the first time; I have another chance to get it.

I have to say that I am going to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday this year...more so than ever before. As it will be the first time I will have had a break; an honest to god break; since January/February.

Now, don't get me wrong, that isn't a long time. Yes, my job is intense and at times very difficult. But, I'm young and should be able to work later, harder and have less of a need for a break. But, this past year has definitely been a learning experience for me.

I look at my experience up to now; high school, college and past jobs. None of them hold a candle to what I do now. Take finals and extend it for eight months; that is what I feel like I have been through. But, no matter how bad it sounds; I love it. Honestly do.

I know that I can do my job and kick ass at it. I am still learning a lot about project, time and client management. But I am not nearly as clueless as I thought I was.

MYSPACE IS BIGGER THAN ME...

Okay, I have since changed my stance on the whole Anti-MySpace issue. I know, I know...Mike; you hate it with a fiery passion. You hate MySpace as much as I hate Comcast and AOL and others hate WalMart. I can't explain it, but it is entertaining. Especially when the 'Great IT Wall' is down at work (the web blocking software usually doesn't allow it through). If I could just get Justin, Freddy, Jen (Roomie) and a few others on there...it would be like Summer Fun all over again.

Granted the layout is not as good as BlogDrive in that you don't control as much as you want. It looks cheesy when you add a photo to the background. But, there is something about it...don't know what that is yet...but it's good though.

Since I'm at work...don't have any funny links to point you to. But, refer to the bar on the right for entertaining links. I will be adding some to there shortly as I have come across some more that are worth noting.

Who wants cookies?

So, in reading previous posts, I think my job is confusing to me based upon my description. So here is an example I came up with about three minutes ago. Our company produces cookies (calm down Freddo) and mails them to the consumer.

Imagine the cookies are personalized pieces like worksheets and confirms. I receive the ingredients from the "People Upstairs" who in turn send it to our programmers. Our programmers make the dough; the designer makes sure the dough goes through the right cookie gun piece (makes a star cookie or a heart - depending on what the client needs) and the Distribution Center is the packaging. The CPM's job is to make sure:

- The programmer has the right ingredients for the dough
- The dough is made right and tastes good
- The designer makes the right cookie shapes for the clients
- The right amount of chocolate chips are in the dough to walnuts
- When the dough is wrong; they remake the dough until it's right
- Get the programmers the right ingredients for the dough
- Help the designers know which type of cookie they need to be making and what it needs to look like
- Help the Distribution Center know how many of each cookies goes to each person
- Inform the DC of what type of packaging the cookies are to be sent in, if a card goes with the cookies and where the cookies are to be sent

My job is to make sure the cookies look/taste great and make sure they get to the customer on time and on budget. So, from the end of July to the middle of September; we are getting the ingredients to the programmers and making sure the packaging is right and the cards have what needs to be written in them. We make a few batches of dough; but nothing serious.

Keep in mind; October is "Cookie Month" for me. We go through three rounds of testing our dough/cookie shapes. The CPM first tests to make sure he has all of the ingredients and does the first run through from ingredients to cookie shaped dough.

Then the "People Upstairs" do the same thing after we have done it. But now they are making sure the dough and dough shapes have the right percentage of flour to sugar/salt. Why would they do this? In order to make sure the cookies aren't too flat, too fluffy or not sweet enough.

Then when they sign off on the dough and cookie dough shapes; we have the buyer of the cookie's take a look them in dough form. They poke and prod to make sure that they taste just how they want before they are baked and mass produced.

Once the buyer things we are good, he/she gives his approval and we begin to make a massive batch of dough and putting it through all of the different cookie shapes. We take the dough shapes and bake them, wrap them and send them on their way.

SO WHERE AM I IN THE COOKIE PROCESS???

So, I am past the initial first round of testing the dough. We are to the "People Upstairs" taste testing the dough and the buyer taste testing as well. Many of the people at my work have several buyers of cookies that deliver their largest batches of cookies by the first week of November. I have five buyers that need their cookies sent by 10/27 and another 6 buyers by 11/21.

Now, that is a lot of buyers to have cookies too. Especially, when the "People Upstairs" can't get their dough right, the dough isn't mixing right and the wrong cookie dough shapes are coming out. This is where I am at. I had a buyer today that went to sign off on their dough only to say it tastes wrong and we had to stop our baking process.

So, you will have to pardon me if you talk to me and I seem a little spacier than usual. A touch more surly than usual and don't return phone calls right away. But, that is my life right now. Just like finals in college, this is my longer and more painful version of finals. But regardless, I'm good at making cookies and that is why I'm at the "Keebler Factory".

GOODBYE MY SILVER FRIEND...
Well, tomorrow might very well mark the end of my days with what no one referred to as the "Silver Bullet". In an effort to put more money towards my house both before and after, I am selling my car.

I'll really...(really really?) miss my car. On the other hand, I'll really (really really?) love my house more than this car. Just tell myself: "In due time lil' grass hoppa...due time"

I have to meet with the buyer tomorrow to begin finalizing the paperwork. When tomorrow I will do this; no clue. But, it needs to be done. I'll admit that I'm a little sad to get rid of my car. I have had some pimp rides in the past ('94 Protégé', '98 Altima, '94 Toyota Truck). All were pimp rides, but this was the pimpest of them all. I mean, look at it. When you got in...you heard "Hot Shit..." when you sat in the seat.

It is definitely an adjustment going from a beat up Toyota truck to this and then back to the beat up truck.

But it isn't all bad; the truck was a serious chick-magnet. The percentages don't lie. Plus, I could care less if people ding it or not.

When you have an asshole that wants to get in your lane. Go ahead and run into me. Your car is nicer than mine and I could care less what happens to mine. I have to admit that I love driving with that mentality. On that note, I'm going to go to bed. I have to be to work in seven hours and I have been home for less than two. I'll let you do the math since it is 12:30 in the morning. So, no links...no witty punch lines...just a lot of information that is not very helpful...I'd say I'm sorry if I was...okay, I wouldn't

Welcome to my other site. Wondering what the first site is? Go to here The Mindless Void. It is worth spending about 30 seconds reading.

This is where I ramble on about anything that comes into my head. From what I had for lunch to conmentary on which version of The Apprentice is better. Enjoy.

And for those who dont' know me; below is me standing on top of the dirt that will one day have a house and be mine. Yep, that's Copper Hill's High School in the background.

Let's get get a few assumptions out of the way:
1. I'm a sports fan (Red Sox, pre 2004; Utah Jazz, Irish football and Duke Blue Devils)
2. I work in a corporate job that involves Status Board updates rather than TPS Reports
3. Favorite Movies: Usual Suspects, Office Space, Empire Strikes Back/Revenge of the Sith, Can't Hardly Wait and the Wallace and Gromit shorts
4. Bands I'm listening to right now: The Used, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, American Hi-Fi, Dave Matthews Band, Kayne West and Frank Sinatra
5. Free Time: Other than reorganize my MP3 collection; golf, watch movies, hang out with my friends and make fun of Brett (cause it is way too easy)

Now for the video clip that makes me laugh...for the moment...
